Well, Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming to a close, so everyone’s eyes are on the New Year. With that comes the big celebrations New year’s eve and after that, the dreaded, RESOLUTIONS!

As a dancer typically center around getting more training and being more fit. As a business owner they center around what I want to accomplish in my business or marketing for the year. So, what are my techniques for sticking to my goals and making sure I follow through? Here’s an inside look as to part of my process:

In putting these goals together, it helps to be very specific. It’s really easy to say, “I’m going to get fit.” But how do you do that? And what do you mean by fit? Putting actions and specific items to those goals is how you truly get things done. Typically where I start is by coming up with 3 or more ways to accomplish that goal.

As an example, let’s use the ” I’m going to get more training in.” Three ways would be to take more classes, to take more workshops, and to practice more. But again, those are general. Take more classes, what does that mean? Twice a week? Three times? Practice more, what does that entail. So again, dive deeper.
From those 3 ways, then go 3 more after that. For this example let’s take the  ” I’m going to practice more.”  Three ways to go about practicing more: Set a schedule to practice 3 times a week, Set an amount of time for each, and set an action- say shimmies. It doesn’t mean that this will be set in stone forever, but start with something and then build on it.

The most important thing is to hold yourself accountable. By that I don’t mean beat yourself up about it. I mean keep track of it, if you don’t meet your goal this week, push yourself to meet your goal next week. Maybe put a reminder on your calendar or put up a note somewhere that you can delete or take down when you’ve done it. Like the satisfaction of checking an item off of your to-do list.
